Overview
Aghamarshan Kund, also known as Dharkundi Kund, is a sacred and ancient water body located in the Dharkundi region near Chitrakoot, set deep within the forested hills of the Satpura range. Situated about 50 km from Chitrakoot and around 70 km from Satna, this holy Aghamarshan Kund in Chitrakoot is one of the most spiritually significant and naturally beautiful pilgrimage spots in the Bundelkhand region.
According to the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Aghamarshan Kund is the place where the famous dialogue between Yudhishthira and the Yaksha (Yaksha Prashna) took place. It is believed that a Yaksha, cursed to live as a python, tested the Pandavas here when they came to drink water from the pond. When the four brothers could not answer his questions, they fell unconscious, and only Yudhishthira answered correctly, after which all were revived. Because of this legend, Aghamarshan Kund is revered as a sin-free, sacred kund where devotees come to bathe and cleanse themselves, especially on Saptami Sunday.
One of the most striking features of Aghamarshan Kund is its unique location — the kund lies approximately 100 meters below ground level, fed by an ever-flowing natural water stream that never runs dry, thanks to the dense forests of the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges. Located at around 1050 feet above sea level, the Dharkundi area is famous for its deep caves, steep rocky cliffs, waterfalls and lush greenery, making it a perfect destination for both pilgrims and nature lovers.
The kund is closely associated with the revered Shri Paramhans Ashram Dharkundi, established in 1956 by Swami Satchidanand Ji Paramhans. Aghamarshan Kund is also counted among the sacred tirthas of the Chaurasi Kosi Parikrama of Chitrakoot, drawing devotees and spiritual seekers throughout the year. How to Reach Aghamarshan Kund, Dharkundi Chitrakoot
Aghamarshan Kund is located deep inside the Satpura forest in the Dharkundi region, about 50 km from Chitrakoot and around 70 km from Satna (Madhya Pradesh). Since it lies in a remote forested area, there is no regular shared taxi or direct public transport to the kund — visitors need to arrange a private vehicle or taxi to reach here comfortably.
By Road (Private Vehicle / Taxi):
The most convenient way to reach Aghamarshan Kund is by private car or taxi. As regular sharing taxis are not available for this route, it is recommended to book a private vehicle from Chitrakoot or Satna for a hassle-free trip. The last stretch passes through dense forest and hilly terrain, so a private cab with a local driver is the safest and most comfortable option.
By Train:
The nearest major railway station is Satna Junction, well connected to cities across India. From Satna, you can hire a private taxi to Dharkundi and Aghamarshan Kund.
By Bus:
There is a direct bus from Satna to Dharkundi. A branch of the Paramhans Ashram is also located near the Satna bus stand, from where information about reaching this place can be obtained. However, bus frequency is limited, so a private vehicle remains the more reliable option.
By Air:
The nearest airport is Khajuraho Airport, from where taxis are available to reach Chitrakoot / Satna and onward to Dharkundi.

Have been here multiple times, it deep inside dense forest. It's recommended to go from majhgava side as the road is proper from that side, avoid the manikpur route though it is very scenic from that side but there is no proper road for 3-4 kms.

Before reaching there you will get a beautiful view of mountains and river Mandakini. Also you will find tiger reserve along with the road side by side. There is a natural waterfall and a small pond has been made for bathing in which water falls from the waterfall. There is a Asharam of parmanand maharaj a little far from where you can have Prasad.
