About Gupt Godavari Chitrakoot

Gupt Godavari is one of the most famous religious and natural attractions in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. Located about 18 km from Ramghat (Chitrakoot town), this sacred cave complex is closely associated with Lord Rama, Mata Sita and Lakshman during their exile. The site is renowned for its two ancient caves, a naturally flowing stream of water inside the cave, and the mysterious rock formations that attract both pilgrims and tourists throughout the year.

According to the Ramayana, Gupt Godavari is believed to be the place where Lord Rama held his royal court (Ram Darbar) during his stay in Chitrakoot. Inside the larger cave, visitors can still see the naturally formed stone seats, which are traditionally believed to represent the thrones of Lord Rama and Lakshman. The cave also contains a continuous stream of cool, crystal-clear water that flows throughout the year, adding to the spiritual and mystical atmosphere of the place.

Apart from its religious significance, Gupt Godavari is also a fascinating natural cave destination. Visitors walk through narrow rock passages and shallow flowing water to explore the cave, making it one of the most unique experiences in Chitrakoot. The combination of mythology, natural beauty and adventure makes it a must-visit destination for pilgrims, families, photographers and nature lovers.
